FAA has rubber-stamped a one-year extension that permits U.S. repair stations with European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) certifications to inspect and approve parts that do not have certain EASA-required documentation.
Europe’s turboprop maintenance market has produced a significant round of consolidation after Contact Air Technik was acquired by fellow German company Rheinland Air Service (RAS).
Contact’s capabilities include heavy maintenance for the ATR42/72 and Bombardier Q400 from its two hangars at Saarbruecken Airport.
RAS offers similar services from its base at Düsseldorf-Mönchengladbach Airport.
By early August, Gulf Coast jet-fuel future markets were predicting prices would ease from $2.07 per gallon to $1.97 per gallon by 2021, still well above early 2018 prices. If fully passed through to fares, that might be expected to cut traffic growth by 1.5-2% annually for the next two years.
